Positional Astronomy: Session 2

Aims and Objectives


By the end of this lecture and corresponding lab session you should:
  1. know how the Sun moves on the celestial sphere over the course of a year;
  2. understand how that impacts which stars are visible at any given time of year;
  3. know the terms sidereal day and solar day, and why they differ;
  4. know about precession of the equinoxes;
  5. understand why the Earth has seasons
  6. understand basic timekeeping.
