Positional Astronomy: Session 3

Aims and Objectives

By the end of this lecture and corresponding lab session you should:
  1. know the definition of a spherical triangle,
  2. understand how to apply spherical trigonometry to deduce the properties of a spherical triangle,
  3. be happy converting between celestial and horizontal co-ordinates and thus
  4. be able to calculate the altitude and azimuth of any celestial object at a given time and location on Earth.
